Description

Eva Smith came to Canada under the West Indian Domestic Scheme in 1955. She discusses the employment conditions for the workers who had entered under this scheme. The importance of community and church leadership had been emphasized by her upbringing, so she brought these values with her. She mentored children and developed programs about Black heritage in her free time.

The film

Five Black women talk about their lives in rural and urban Canada between the 1920s and 1950s. What emerges is a unique history of Canada's Black people and the legacy of their community elders. Older Stronger Wiser is the first film in a Studio D series entitled Women at the Well.
