Using a variety of introspective and critical thinking exercises, students look closely at the practice of “arranged marriage.” Although Canadians of European descent may consider arranged marriages restrictive and outdated, the film shows how this type of marriage can be a desirable option for some people. The lesson plan and the film invite thought-provoking questions about the function of marriage in general and the role it plays in defending identity and in facilitating social integration. Students write journal entries, conduct interviews and explore alternative scenarios.
