Chinese labourers in a detraining camp.

Between 1881 and 1884, over 10,000 Chinese labourers came to Canada to complete the western section of the Canadian Pacific Railway. In 1917, the railway helped transport nearly 80,000 Chinese men, sent from China to British Columbia, to be dispatched from East Coast ports to the World War I trenches of France.
