Grand Rapids Dam, Manitoba
Stock shot from NFB Archives

Hydroelectric power generation by the natural resource water is the principal source of electricity in Canada today. The Grand Rapids dam was completed in 1968. Today the environmental and human effects to be avoided or minimized in large hydroelectric projects make them increasingly difficult and costly to plan and build.
