Battle of Arras 3

The Film

Year
1917

Running Time
08 min 23 s

Producer
Canadian War Records Office, Ministry of Information

The British advance eastward in the winter of 1917 was not a military victory, but soldiers and civilians alike rejoiced at any ground gained. The destruction wrought by the enemy, as at Arras, ought to have eliminated any such joy. Certainly it increased hatred for the enemy and the desire for vengeance.

This clip includes a fine scene of South African infantry staging a raid on an enemy trench position and returning with German prisoners.
