Anti-conscription Demonstration
The Gazette, photograph, Montreal, Quebec, March 23, 1939

This anti-conscription demonstration was organized by students at Université de Montréal on Champ-de-Mars on March 23, 1939, nearly six months before the war was declared. It shows the extent to which fear of conscription, similar to that of 1917, haunted young people at the time.
