Royal Canadian Air Force Briefing Before Kiska
Flight Lieutenant Paul Alexander Goranson, oil on canvas, 1939-1945

On August 15, 1943, after three weeks of naval and air bombing, a combined U.S. and Canadian force landed on Kiska, one of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. The Japanese had occupied it since June 1942, but had left since July 28.
