War-damaged Church
Lieut. Ken Bell, photograph, Carpiquet, France, July 12, 1944

Infantrymen of the 9th Canadian Infantry Brigade examine the sad state of a church in Carpiquet, France, in July 1944. This small town was the stage of a horrible and desperate battle in which Canadian soldiers were subjected to shelling and incessant fire from the redoubtable 12th SS.
