The Catastrophe of the Dieppe Raid
Photographer unknown, photograph, Dieppe, France, August 19, 1942

In the aftermath of Operation Jubilee, the bodies of Canadian soldiers lie on Dieppe beach. August 19, 1942 remains to this day one of the darkest in Canadian military history: this ill-planned fight, which lasted just under nine hours, saw 907 Canadian combatants perish.
